We need nourishment. Physical, emotional, the need runs the gamut. Food is many things. Don’t take it for granted and don’t worship it. Make it, share it, enjoy it all. In the US, culturally, we have few rituals, but we prepare food and eat daily. You’ve probably already eaten at least once today. So, ritual yes. But also a form of communication. Also, a dividing line. Also, at risk. The inequities of our world meet us at our plate, as does our heart, our bodies, and our history. The acts of cooking and eating are bold demonstrations of our agency and our humanity. To nourish ourselves, unabashedly, is to fully inhabit ourselves, our needs, our desires. This is your right. Right now.
And right now your body is brilliantly communicating to you what you need and when you need it. It is speaking to you through the language of sensation. It is constantly inviting you to listen and to tap into your inner knowing. Often the knowing in our bodies is intercepted by the insidious noise of diet culture, of white supremacy, of capitalism. We reject, resist, and ultimately divest from these oppressive systems when we reconnect with our bodies. Embodiment is divestment.
None of us do this work alone. We help each other so that we can help each other. We find our places in our communities, we learn how to receive support and we learn how to be supportive. We ALL need nourishment.
We Need Nourishment is empowered nutrition, it is anti-diet, weight inclusive, fat positive, queer, antiracist, feminist, liberatory, pretty woo, delicious, and totally punk rock.
There are many ways we can work together. Below you will find some examples of how I’ve worked in collaboration with my clients. If you find that the support you’re seeking looks a little different than what you see, please reach out to discuss. I’m here to meet you where you’re at with what you need, and that includes equitable pricing*.
I see my role as a nutritionist akin to what a doula does. I’m here to provide support by way of information, encouragement, and organization on your path toward empowerment and embodiment.
Together we will enter into an ongoing collaboration where we will work in support of your embodiment by way of delving into your relationship to food, movement, stress management, etc. I will not be whipping you into shape, but I will provide guidance, resources, and knowledge in the effort to help you cultivate deeper body awareness, agency, and peace.
*My equitable pricing scale is available to anyone currently or historically experiencing oppression, systemically and/or interpersonally at a 15% discount. And for those who are currently or historically benefiting from the systems that oppress people in our society I invite you to add 15% to your total if possible. This added 15% will be earmarked for equity pricing. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
*Pricing will vary and may be a little more or less than what is listed
These three-part series are client-tailored deep dives into common conditions that demystify and myth-bust how our bodies work, what role embodiment plays -with supportive practices, and relevant information about food and nutrients. Each workshop is accompanied by info-rich slides that will be shared in PDF form and function as materials for continuing reference. A follow up fourth meeting is also included. Workshops conducted over video conferencing are recorded and shared for ongoing reference. Pricing varies, the average is $1500.
Past workshops have included: prediabetes, hypertension, and PCOS.
This is a series we design together that focuses in on the nuts and bolts of aligning your goals and values around nourishment and body liberation with your day-to-day reality. Pricing will vary by design.

Drawing inspiration and influence from the consciousness-raising meetings of second wave feminism and the skill sharing workshops of the punk faction of the third wave, I facilitate informative and empowering gatherings that foster learning, agency, and community.
I love teaching, collaborating, and connecting with groups, and I present workshops to the public via my website and Portland Community College. More often, I teach empowered nutrition to organizations or self-assembled groups of individuals.
If you are interested in self-assembling a group for an intersectional deep dive into any of the many facets of food and nutrition, please get in touch for more details.
With a nod to the Tupperware parties of yore, if you assemble the group* and provide the location (I can provide the video conferencing for virtual gatherings), then your attendance will be gratis.
*group minimums must be met and will vary

I am a lot of things, I’ve done a lot of things, and I certainly feel a lot of things. My work in this world is centered around the body, the body as compass. For me, this work is shared through the lens of nourishment. I am a nutritionist with a background in professional cooking and I come to my profession a whole person. My work is informed by who I am and what I have experienced.
My childhood was a truly human mix of trauma and joy, violence and community support, food scarcity and big family feasts around crowded tables. I know class shame. I know how to navigate chronic illness. I know pregnancy loss. I know how to find family in many places. I also know delight, I also know pleasure.
I laugh out loud and I smile big.
My first compass was punk rock, specifically riot grrrl. It was through that music and that movement that I first found a home in my body. All the rage of girlhood under patriarchy and “Don’t Diet, Riot!” I’m so grateful for the influence of that movement that continually gave me permission to feel sad and angry, to feel desire, and to take up space any which way. It wasn’t a perfect movement, but it sure gave me a fighting chance to learn and grow.
The dark venues and messy bedrooms of riot grrrl were followed by hot, fragrant kitchens. In cooking school I learned how to employ my intuition through my senses. Truly listening to my body in the kitchen led me to listen to my body in all facets of my life and experience. The somatic honing of intuition is at the root of all that I do. The body is the compass.
I have certifications in intuitive cooking, personal cheffing, and functional nutrition. I am a member of, and listed provider for, the Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH), committed to the principles of Health At Every Size (HAES)®. I am currently working toward a certification through the Center for Body Trust.
I grew up in New Jersey, bounced around a bit in both location and work. For many years I split my time catering and working in film, video, and theater production in New York City. I’ve been in Martha Stewart's kitchens and I’ve been behind the scenes with Isabella Rossellini. My most formative experience was living and working with the performance artist and activist Penny Arcade. Through her model and influence did I first witness what it means to truly live your values.
Since 2010 I have been living and working in Portland, Oregon. I am 45, queer, divorced, and perimenopausal. I live with my 8 year old neurodivergent kid who often goes by the name Baby Dragon. At some point I would like to parent a dog, too.
